Consequences Of Watching Porn Frequently

Overall, there is nothing specifically harmful in watching porn. Porn is freely available today on the Internet, even free of charge for watching the videos. Many people watch porn now and then for various reasons. Some are simply lonely and do not want to look for a partner for one-time sex, some are away from their loved ones and just need to relax and distract themselves from everyday problems. Some people are aroused by specific fantasies, but they are aware they will never want to bring those fantasies to reality, or will never be able to due to different limiting factors.

In general, for a great majority of people, watching porn is a quick, cheap and safe way to relax and burn off steam, so to say. However, some people start watching porn too often.

What Can Be Considered Too Often?

It all depends, generally, on the type of the person’s temper. But overall, it is convenient to assess this regularity by comparing it to the regularity of usual sex life. If for a person one interaction per day is normal, therefore, when the person is single, one episode of watching porn is normal and not too often. If with real partners in real life the person has two sexual interactions per week, watching porn every day can be considered too often for this particular person.

The nuance of watching porn is that, due to it being a digital form of relaxation and entertainment, people tend to spend more time choosing a porn video to watch than actually watching it for their pleasure. This creates a special illusion of unlimited choice. The person spends more time on this, and sometimes due to this, the actual self-stimulation lasts longer, bringing more pleasure. Thus, watching porn is perceived as more pleasing than having sex with a real partner, despite the fact that is a reality, it is not.

Negative Consequences

If porn does not interfere into the person’s real offline sexual life with real partners, then it is ok and the negative consequences are not present. However, if the person avoids sex with real people and spends more time watching porn, obviously some negative consequences are present. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • inability to get aroused by a real partner offline;
  • too high expectations set for the partner’s appearance, grooming, behavior, etc.;
  • increased disgust to natural fluids, smells etc. of a real human body, including disgust to own body;
  • inability to have sex without watching an image or video of other people having sex;
  • lack of imagination on how to bring variety into offline sex with real people;
  • inability to get an orgasm during the sexual interaction without using own hands or toys.

All these are direct consequences of watching too much porn. These lead to poor relationships, insufficient emotional bonding with partners, and even divorces.
